Please read this before you relocate to a new city

Do you know that if your relocation has a gas cylinder involved, your insurance will be no longer valid (even if you have paid for it).

April starts with new organizational goals and a lot of relocations. And it’s tough. It’s actually very tough. Relocation is no less than a mental, emotional and physical trauma for a lot of people and the reason I am saying this is because as of today, we deal with 300+ relocation request every month.

Taking some time out from my casual content designing schedules, I really wanted to write this piece in a way that it reflects, from an unbiased perspective, everything that you will need to know while relocating in the coming month. ( If you aren’t the one who is relocating, share this piece with someone and be of some real help).

I have tried my best to keep it as sweet and short as possible. Hook up till the end. If you are relocating, we might have something important.

Be candid and ask for discounts: That’s your right. Ask for it. And most of the time, you will also get it. Just don’t be unreasonable ;).(In no way assume that Movers earn a lot of money. It’s not the money that facilities discounts. It’s actually the business objective).

Be an Indian: And do compare. At Happy Locate there are 20+ Packers N Movers and I will be very honest, not every packer will be the one you are looking for. While all of them including Agrawal Packers and Movers, Leo Packers and Mover, Interem Relocations and Maxwell are just amazing when it comes to service delivery but some of them are premium while some of them might not serve at your location. So be judicious while making your relocation. Rest be assured, your relocation expert is just a call away ( if you are a Happy Locate customer ).

Ask for offers: I am not very sure if packers and movers do it but this is something we take care of at HappyLocate. While our customers execute their relocation (which is roughly a month long cycle), we offer them a variety of offers which a lot of them find very handy. To quote one of many, while a house is locked while it was up for rent/sell, there is a huge chance that the house might need a pest control.

Look-alike, Spell-alike: This entire industry is facing a problem of duplicates. I will always recommend you to use a platform like HappyLocate so that you are sure that you are talking to the right mover and not its alias.

Local Offices: If you are relocating to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkata, it might not be a real issue. If you are going for packer who is not on the list of popular packers, stay cautious. Make sure that they have offices at least in the city you are relocating to. If you are taking care of your movement all by your own, you might never want to hand over your goods to someone who shares a probability of taking it away.

Is your Packaging Material tough enough: This cannot be felt, touched or looked at. It has to be always a written commitment. In one instance that I remember, one of the vendors that we were inspecting before they could be listed, they were found to use sheets and boards which were thin by few GSMs. While this is just invisible to human eyes, it saves a lot of costs.

FYI, an A4 sheet is close to 130 GSM. So how few GSMs will look like you can probably guess.

Insurance: At a lot of times, relocation can be very tricky. It’s a lot of fragile stuff and even best of the packaging might fail due to unforeseen incidents. At Happy Locate, while we have partnered with the best Packers and Movers with the best packaging standards, we always encourage the client to go for insurance.

Relocating is not just selecting packer and mover: Yes. It is not. If you ever had a thought that packer and the mover are the ones and the only thing you need to think then better think again. Because your hotel stays before you move to that city, your flights while you are relocating, your hotel stays for up to 10 – 12 Days after moving to the new city (this is the duration during which you will be busy in fixing you permanent stay in the new city).

Creating a house out of home: While I talk to a lot of people who relocate, it’s one thing that I always feel. Almost all of them just don’t feel complete unless they find their solace. The only advice that I want to give at the end is that please be practical. Your kid needs an amazing school but it’s impractical for him to travel 1-2 hours every day to reach there. Your wife’s office is almost next to your house but your office being 2 hours away from your home makes no sense. And similarly, a same 2BHK flat that could have cost 5k – 6K per month less just 4KM apart from the one you just bought might be something that you want to consider.

It’s one thing that you should know. From April 01 and May 31, a lot of people will relocate. And you need to know this simply because if you know someone who is relocating, don’t let me suffer. Share this blog with them and make their lives simpler.
